Resurrecting the jagged song structures and abrasive assault of vintage punk acts such as The Buzzcocks and Gang Of Four, The Nervous Return (originally named Twig) was a reminder of a vibrant time in the underground when they debuted in 2000. Led by vocalist/guitarist Jason Muller, the band also featured drummer Greg Gordon, and bassist Tony Crouse. The band recorded an eponymous EP that was distributed at their concerts, soon gaining the attention of independent labels. Offered to release their full-length debut on MooTron Records, they recorded Headshots and let the label release the short and efficient record in the spring of 2002. Filled with short and quirky songs, the band became one of the more prominent post-punk revivalists in the Los Angeles scene. Hooking up next and signing with LaSalle Records (owned by Blink-182s Travis Barker), the guys issued Wake Up Dead in September 2004.144 hours (produced by legendary Evil Joe Barresi) is their latest full-length offering, hurling their signature sonic assault and catchy hooks. Warped pop genius from Los Angeles. This is mid-70s glam rock excess colliding with razor-sharp post-punk noise. And its great. -Kerrang!
