PQ Sessions present: Jazz Plus: Tamir and Friends with special guest guitarist Larry Koonse: Pianist-composer Tamir Hendelman is joined by bassist Alex Frank in an evening of jazz standards, improvisations and originals in an artistic Sherman Oaks home featuring a masterfully rebuilt 1924 Louis XV Steinway known as the Purple Queen. The duo will perform a 90-minute set at 7pm, followed by light snacks and (non-alcoholic) refreshments. Doors open at 6:30pm. Pianist Tamir Hendelman is a long-time member of the Jeff Hamilton Trio and Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra and leader of his own trio with two chart-topping releases and has performed and recorded with saxophonists Harry Allen, Houston Person and Rickey Woodard and vocalists Roberta Gambarini, Natalie Cole, Tierney Sutton and Barbra Streisand. He has performed Rhapsody in Blue with orchestra and has been on the faculty of the University of California Los Angeles since 2005. Bassist Alex Frank has established himself as a first-call bassist for film (Jersey Boys), television (Modern Family), and records (Landau Murphy, Jr.) He is the bassist in jazz trios with pianist Tamir Hendelman and guitarist Bruce Forman as well as the Lineage Trio with Graham Dechter and Ryan Shaw. He has performed with Benny Golson, Tierney Sutton, Kenny Burrell and Bil Holman, and was the musical director for a special Sinatra 100 celebration, accompanying George Benson, Jane Monheit, Renee Olstead and more.
